Error connecting to server?

Just wondering.. when i put in my user/pass and immediately it says 'Error connecting to server' What does this mean?
Does it mean the server is down?
Or is there a problem with my connection?
because i'm posting to a forum right now.. so internet is fine..
is it my client? do i need to dwnload the new one?

But yeah, just to clarify: We all experenced it, the server was down because (I assume) Chief took it down to do some upgrades and stuff :]. Either that or it crashed D:
